My work and what inspires it -

June 24

I'm still plugging away at my new group of paintings...I don't really like showing process pictures of them until they're finished and I can show them all at once...it sounds weird but showing them in an in-between phase feels like I'm showing something really private (that im not ready to show) because i haven't been able to emotionally and mentally work through them yet .. and it also makes me feel stagnant and stuck..it's like I need to have my secluded fight and victory with it before I can present it..

I love these by Cande Aguliar:

"American Capital", 2009. 120" * 96". Mixed media.

"Trophy Wife"- Art Con's "Mounted" Show

Saturday, June 8, at Mokah Art Gallery is Art Con's spring, juried art auction, "Mounted"!! The theme is taxidermy because we are in the great state of Texas, after all.

I thought making a Trophy Wife would be a good subject for a 'mounted'/ 'taxidermy'-themed show: the dual-meaning that's present of her being "the trophy", herself, and the eerie question begged of how she physically became taxidermy, (what happened to her in her life as a trophy wife). I definitely wanted to make a sculptural piece for this because of the theme, but also wanted my career as an abstract, oil painter to be represented. I used a lot of pink to play into her juxtaposition of glamour and femininity with creepiness and solemnness.
